How to Secure New Systems Against Hackers

The rush to connect more and more products to the internet is exposing myriad new opportunities for hackers to gain access to both systems and resources, using them for ill will.
In September, hackers gained control of more than 145,000 online cameras and used them to launch a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the security blog KrebsOnSecurity.com, bringing it down for more than 24 hours. A month later, another DDoS attack, this time on Internet performance management firm Dyn, disabled Internet services across much of the East Coast by co-opting more than 100,000 cameras and other devices that make up the so-called Internet-of-Things (IoT).
