FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), announced today that it was named to The Washington Post’s Top Workplaces 2022 list. GDIT was ranked number eight among large companies in the DC metro region.
“This award is a testament to the vibrant, diverse, and inclusive culture we’re rebuilding at GDIT over the last four years,” said Amy Gilliland, GDIT’s president. “The strength of our culture is critical to serving our customers, creating meaningful careers for our employees, and driving innovation and growth.”
In addition to providing enhanced benefits such as caregiver support and flexible work during the pandemic, GDIT also focused on employee mental well-being. In September 2021, GDIT launched a campaign called HOW ARE YOU, REALLY? to raise awareness around the importance of mental health. The campaign has been instrumental in removing the stigma for people who need mental health support, leading to a significant increase in employees accessing mental health counseling and enabling company-wide conversations on topics such as suicide.
The company’s nine employee resource groups (ERGs) also provide a safe space and sense of community for employees. ERGs such as the Black Employee Network, Honor (veterans and military families), and Pride (LGBTQ+) offer employees close-knit communities and help them navigate important societal issues such as social injustice and violence against communities of color. Through the volunteer-led ERGs, employees discuss concerns and raise awareness about important issues.
“At GDIT, we want every employee to be seen and heard,” said Tammy Kness, GDIT’s senior vice president of human resources and internal communications. “Our ERGs create inclusive environments for employees to share experiences, grow together, and provide GDIT with critical feedback about how we can grow our culture”
The Post award, given annually, is based on the results of an employee survey administered by an outside research and consulting firm. The survey focused on several critical drivers of workplace culture, including appreciation, values, innovation, diversity, and inclusiveness. More than 500 companies participated in this year’s contest.
