FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics, announced today that it was named as a 2024 Leading Disability Employer by the National Organization on Disability (NOD).
NOD uses a Disability Employment Tracker™ to evaluate organizations in six areas related to disability and veteran inclusion: people practices, strategy, climate and culture, talent sourcing, talent outcome metrics and workplace tools and accessibility.
“Receiving this recognition is a testament to our sustained efforts to build a fully inclusive workplace where individuals of all abilities and diverse work styles can thrive and contribute,” said Scott Nycum, GDIT’s vice president of inclusion, diversity, and giving. “NOD’s endorsement of our progress motivates us to continue the journey toward greater awareness, upskilling opportunities and career advancement for every part of our workforce.”
In addition to flexible work schedules and comprehensive health benefits, GDIT has strengthened its workplace policies, processes and programs to support employees with disabilities. These include self-identification campaigns for employees to safely disclose their disabilities, coaching and educational sessions for managers to support neurodiverse employees, expanding veteran recruitment and offering wellness programs that enable every employee to thrive at home and at work.
Ability First, the company’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) for employees with disabilities and their allies, offers a platform for employees to build community, raise awareness and engage with GDIT leadership about topics important to the disability community.
Among the criteria evaluated by NOD included a focus on inclusive mental health initiatives. GDIT was recognized for its investment and commitment to employee well-being through the “How Are You, Really?” mental health awareness campaign. Since launching the program in 2021, the company continues to offer actionable resources for employees, including monthly webinars on emotional wellness, employee assistance programs, access to online therapy, mental health resource guides, mindfulness sessions and family support services. As a result of these efforts, in 2023 and 2024, GDIT received the Platinum Bell Seal award for workplace mental health from Mental Health America.
