Partnership expands company’s workplace mental health and wellness efforts

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics, announced today that it has formed a partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. As NAMI’s StigmaFree Workplace partner, GDIT will expand its ongoing efforts to create a culture that is supportive and accepting of mental health needs; provide access to NAMI’s expertise and mental health resources for its employees; and reduce stigma around mental health, especially for its thousands of veterans and cleared professionals, in the workplace.

“Creating a culture where employees feel empowered to address their mental health is increasingly crucial in today’s demanding workplace,” said Amy Gilliland, GDIT’s president. “In fact, our ability to be mission-ready is contingent upon having a resilient team, and we want to ensure that it’s always okay to ask for help and foster open and honest conversations. The partnership with NAMI reinforces our commitment to de-stigmatizing mental health issues and supporting the well-being of our employees.”

“We are grateful to GDIT, and all of our corporate partners, who see the value in supporting their employees’ mental health,” said Jessica Edwards, NAMI’s chief development officer. “The support of our partners is critical to the work we do to serve people who live with mental illness and their families. We are looking forward to collaborating with GDIT.”

This partnership marks the latest GDIT initiative to enhance employee well-being. In fall 2021, the company launched a campaign called “How Are You, Really?” to raise mental health awareness. Over the last two years, the company has added more resources to this program, including monthly webinars on emotional wellness, employee assistance programs, access to online therapy, mental health resource guides, mindfulness sessions and family support services. As a result of these efforts, in 2023 and 2024, GDIT received the Platinum Bell Seal award for workplace mental health from Mental Health America.

GDIT is a business unit of General Dynamics, a global aerospace and defense company that offers a broad portfolio of products and services in business aviation; ship construction and repair; land combat vehicles, weapons systems and munitions; and technology products and services. General Dynamics employs more than 100,000 people worldwide and generated $42.3 billion in revenue in 2023.
