Please take this opportunity to join one of GDIT’s fastest long-standing growing programs!  US Battlefield Information Collection and Exploitation System eXtended (US BICES-X) is a cutting-edge program supporting DoD intelligence information sharing on current and emerging global threats to mission and coalition partners and emerging nations. With an internationally dispersed team supporting each combatant command, the US BICES-X team is in direct support of the war fighter and their missions. We are seeking a creative and driven professional with a passion for solving real world issues on a cross-functional, fast paced team. 

An ideal Senior Systems Engineer candidate is a strong, self-motivated, solution-oriented individual who will be joining an experienced team to support the implementation and sustainment of multiple networks. We are looking for an experienced, innovative, and enthusiastic systems engineer to join us in delivering high quality IT systems to our customers. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to not only work knowledgeably with the company’s systems, but they also should be able to explain how the system works and what’s possible with the system when working with team members and users. The ability to work well under pressure and identify solutions quickly is essential to support the mission and the warfighter.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and defines architectures for future-state IT capabilities and services.
  • Work with stakeholders to facilitate alignment of business strategies, operational processes, and IT strategies related to future-state architecture changes.
  • Leverage enterprise methodologies and patterns.
  • Install and maintain the performance of database servers.
  • Develop processes for optimizing database security.
  • Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
  • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Create automation for repeating database tasks.
  • Troubleshoot clusters/farms of database servers.
  • Operating and maintaining the database management systems and platforms deployed in the US and Missions, including routine maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring for availability and performance, performance tuning, diagnosing/troubleshooting, database backup, and recovery.
  • Installing, configurating, developing and supporting customer specific applications that are unique to the organization mission objectives.
  • Planning and scheduling maintenance including security patching and emergency responses for database management systems and platforms in the production environment.
  • Administering business services, databases, and tools including account creation, access control settings, password resets, executing data scripts as per SOPs, tracing sessions, and providing logs.
  • Identifying and documenting architectural requirements supporting future Enterprise needs, including goals, approach, Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M), and desired end state for each milestone.
  • Apply and maintain STIGs along with overall security posture of database and other servers in the Enterprise.
  • Evaluates analytically and systematically problems with workflows, organization and planning and develops appropriate corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement testing strategies to verify/validate requirements.
  • Implement and troubleshoot high availability database infrastructures.
  • Participates in special projects as required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (may substitute additional years of experience)
  • 10+ years of relevant experience of which at least 3 of years of that directly related to SQL Server administration.
  • Must hold a current US Secret clearance and be eligible to possess and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Clearance.
  • Must have current DoD 8570 compliance with IAT level II access upon hire.
  • Experience with Windows Servers Operating Systems.
  • Experience with all or some SQL Server versions 2014/2016/2017/2019.
  • Additional specific certifications may be required.
  • Experience in database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and high availability strategies for SQL Server 2017 or higher.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database performance issues.
  • Experience with implementation of Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG)
  • Experience with SQL Server backup and recovery strategies.
  • Experience in upgrading major database instances.
  • Independently able to employ multiple database backup strategies.
  • Ability to work closely with system admins and ISSO on application upgrades, documentation, and STIG remediation.
  • May be required to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AlwaysOn, high availability, and failover clustering highly desired.
  • Experience authoring and maintaining PowerShell scripts highly desired.
  • A demonstrated strong working knowledge of Microsoft and Virtual infrastructure technologies.
  • SQL Server or other database certifications.
  • Understanding of Agile, ITIL, DevOps practices.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $105,622 - $138,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
