Job Description

Deputy Engineering Manager

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a market leader and technology innovator, is seeking talented professionals to deliver detailed solutions to our customers.

GDIT has an opening for a Deputy Engineering Manager (EM) to join our team. This position provides an opportunity to join an expanding team that will continue to develop and expand a system that supports an existing government customer. We work closely with our customer to ensure that we continue to provide the updated services needed as they expand their own product offerings to a growing list of other government organizations.

The selected Deputy EM candidate will work within an established team to build and further advance GDIT credential production equipment, software systems, and related applications.  They will work alongside the Program Manager, Engineering Manager, development, engineering, and maintenance teams to create, manage, and report on multiple engineering/technology/development initiatives.   In addition to receiving a competitive salary and generous health and personal benefits, the Deputy EM will enhance their skill set by working among a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues. HOW AN ENGINEERING MANAGER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Act as a customer contact for engineering activities, assisting/leading program and engineering review sessions with customer to discuss schedule and technical performance.
  • Establish milestones and monitor adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies program problems, and obtains solutions.
  • Develop mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Position GDIT as trusted advisor with Federal Government Clients. Lead teams to meet and exceed SLAs and KPIs while mitigating risks, controlling costs, and managing schedules.
  • Keeps well-informed of new technologies and industry best practices and trends and then plans and advises for implementation.
  • Provides guidance and solutions to ensure the engineering needs align with the strategic customer initiatives.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to less-experienced engineering personnel.
  • Analyzes customer requirements and works with the team to develop engineering solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
  • Manages (or assists with) production equipment vendor relationships.
  • Work with the team to develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients as well as other staff members.
  • Manage and oversee full time employees.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • 2+ years of experience providing oversight of engineering teams.
  • The candidate must be a U.S. citizen and successfully complete a Public Trust background investigation.

Additional (Desired) Qualifications:

  • Experience leveraging data analytics and insights to drive program strategy.
  • Experience in IT systems management, equipment maintenance, and integration. 
  • Experience with secure credential production. 

Work Location:

Primary location of work will be Washington, DC, but will be expected to be on site in Falls Church, VA for meetings and events on occasion as needed.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $139,984 - $155,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
