Job Description

Scientist Associate

GDIT is currently seeking a {Scientist} in {Falls Church, VA} to join our team. In this role you will be a change agent  through support to EPA’s Superfund site assessment program, specifically the Hazard Ranking System (HRS), the mechanism for proposing hazardous waste site to the National Priorities List (NPL). You will assist senior staff in various aspects related to: developing training, guidance and other tools for the EPA site assessment program related to the HRS; assessing sites for placement on the NPL; responding to comments on sites already proposed to the NPL.

Task and responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Review, comprehend and analyze environmental information/data from various sources
  • Revise/update documentation based on editorial and technical reviews
  • Organize and present environmental information/data in various formats
  • Prepare written drafts for guidance documentation using existing HRS resources
  • Prepare written summaries based on existing reports or conference calls
  • Assist with tracking and reporting site-specific information
  • Assist with organizing and coordinating webinars, training sessions, conference calls

To qualify, you must meet these basic qualifications: 

  • Standard Education and Years of Experience required, per Job Category.
  • Degree in sciences (e.g., environmental science, chemistry, geology) or environmental policy/law
  • 2+ years professional experience in environmental field
  • Experience reviewing, analyzing or working with environmental information and/or data
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience with EPA laws and regulations (e.g., CERCLA)
  • Experience analyzing environmental data and preparing written summaries
  • Experience presenting to various audiences

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $56,950 - $77,050. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
