Job Description

Senior Linux Systems Administrator:  

GDIT has an immediate opening for a Sr. Windows / Linux Systems Administrator supporting the CITS contract for USCENTCOM. The position is based in Tampa, Florida. 

 

Position Overview: The Senior Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimization of Linux-based servers in a complex enterprise environment with over 5,000 users, 1,000 servers, and 10,000 endpoints. The role will focus on ensuring the availability, security, and performance of the organization's Linux infrastructure, providing Tier 3 support for critical systems. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Administrator with demonstrated experience managing Linux servers. The Senior Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for overseeing the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers, virtual machines, and networking devices. The candidate will play a key role in troubleshooting server performance, ensuring security compliance, and addressing system availability issues. They will collaborate with other IT teams to implement infrastructure solutions that meet operational requirements and contribute to the overall efficiency and security of the organization's systems. 

 

Additional responsibilities include: 

- Building, deploying, and maintaining Linux server environments. 

- Configuring and managing Linux services such as Apache, Nginx, DNS, DHCP, and LDAP. 

- Ensuring the proper functioning and security of web servers, including SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management. 

- Tuning system performance, ensuring uptime, and maintaining detailed system documentation. 

- Implementing critical system patches and updates across Linux environments. 

- Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving complex systems issues that may not have previously documented solutions. 

- Developing and enforcing system policies to optimize performance and security. 

- Collaborating with other IT teams to design and implement Linux-based solutions that align with organizational requirements. 

- Participating in system upgrades, migrations, and new deployments of Linux-based infrastructure. 

- Providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior administrators and team members to foster a deeper understanding of Linux systems. 

- Reviewing and preparing system documentation, process guides, and troubleshooting procedures. 

- Supporting projects aimed at improving the security, efficiency, or capability of the Linux environment. 

- Ensuring that problems are tracked, escalated, and resolved at the appropriate priority level. 

- Producing data sets and reports to inform management of system performance and process improvements. 

 

Education and/or Certifications: 

Required: 

Applicable DoD 8140 or DoD 8570 Certification. 

5+ years of experience

 

Desired: 

Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or higher. 

ITIL 4 Foundation Certification. 

5+ years of experience

 

Required Skills: 

- Demonstrated proficiency in managing and troubleshooting Red Hat / CentOS Linux servers. 

- Proven experience in systems administration and infrastructure management. 

- Ability to review, modify, and prepare comprehensive documentation for systems administration tasks such as system configurations, troubleshooting guides, and best practices. 

  

Desired Skills: 

- Experience with Ansible automation. 

- Experience with USCENTCOM and familiarity with its mission 

- Knowledge and familiarity with USCENTCOM’s IT environment  

- Experience working in cross functional IT teams and projects. 

- Experience working with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) administration. 

- General understanding of Certificate Lifecycle Management 

- Prior experience in the writing and implementation of Group Policies related to the use of computing resources and to address security vulnerabilities as they are discovered. 

  

Clearance Requirement: 
- Active TS/SCI clearance required

 

Travel Requirements: 

- Required USCENTCOM Exercise support of up to 10% Travel during the Year to OCONUS Locations

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $97,750 - $132,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
