Job Description

Engineering Technician I

Performs surface preparation tasks on metal components within a fabrication setting using specialized equipment to clean and smooth surfaces by removing rust, paint, or other debris, while also assisting with other fabrication tasks like loading, unloading, and basic metal handling. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Sandblasting operations:
    • Setting up and operating sandblasting equipment, including blast booths and portable blasters.
    • Selecting the appropriate abrasive media based on the material being cleaned.
    • Loading and unloading parts into the blast cabinet.
    • Carefully directing the abrasive stream to achieve desired surface finish.
    • Inspecting finished surfaces for cleanliness and quality.
  • Fabrication support:
    • Assisting with material handling, including loading and unloading metal components.
    • Basic metal cleaning and prepping tasks.
    • May perform minor fabrication tasks like deburring or grinding depending on the specific needs.
  • Safety compliance:
    • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirator, gloves, and safety glasses.
    • Adhering to safety procedures for handling abrasive materials and high-pressure equipment.
    • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

AA/AS Degree or equivalent years of related experience
1+ years of experience

Ability to operate power and hand tools

Ability to work within a motivated small team

Able to lift 50 pounds or more on daily basis

Ability to work on special projects as required

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $17.22 - $21.85. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
