Job Description

The Server Services Group, supporting the EPA Infrastructure Operations Branch as part of ITS-EPA IV (MAINES), provides support of Windows, Unix, and VMware information systems on hardware located primarily in NC and Colorado, with satellite data centers in multiple states, and tenants in Azure and AWS. The program is looking for a Senior Windows Engineer with Cloud experience to become a key contributor within Windows Infrastructure Hosting Team.

Senior Windows Engineer with experience in Azure and AWS hosted systems providing operational support of Windows Servers which are members of Active Directory with configuration management from SCCM.

This position will:

  • Maintain Windows 2012R2 - 2022 operating system functionality and stability;
  • Build new on-premises and Cloud Hosted systems;
  • Innovate with Enterprise class solutions;
  • Diagnose and resolve system problems within the OS, hardware, and applications;
  • Maintain system security;
  • Participate in VMware on premise to Cloud VM Migrations; Create and update procedures and documentation;
  • Investigate, analyze, and correct systemic issues;
  • Investigate vendor vulnerability updates and patches;
  • Perform routine system preventative maintenance and
  • Respond to break-fix tickets.

This individual will also operate as a Windows Hosting project resource with expected contribution in architecting scalable, reliable, secure technical solutions encompassing both on premise and Cloud Compute Resources.

Individual Windows skills and experience should include expert knowledge of Credential Management and Group Policy, strong experience with PowerShell, experience in Virtual and Physical Server performance troubleshooting, proven experience supporting Windows Virtual Machines in VMware, understanding of Server Hardening and Vulnerability Mitigation, understanding of RDS, and intermediate knowledge of Operational support with SCCM. From the Cloud perspective, experience in either AWS or Azure is required with previous operational support duties.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 Years Experience Managing Windows Servers in an Enterprise Setting
  • 3 Years Experience in VMware (6.x, 7.x)
  • Intermediate Level Operational Experience with SCCM
  • Experience Managing Windows Servers in Azure and/or AWS
  • Proven, Current Intermediate to Expert PowerShell Knowledge
  • Tier 2 knowledge of networking and storage concepts and technologies
  • Proficiency with an Enterprise Monitoring System (SCOM, SolarWinds, Infraview, etc)
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Dell Hardware including remote management via DRAC
  • Prior experience on a Government Contract
  • Familiarity with Service Now

Education and Certifications:

  • Current MCSA (preferred MCSA: Cloud Platform)
  • Prefer ITILv4 Certification

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $102,000 - $138,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
