Technical Editor

Seize your opportunity to make a personal impact as a Technical Editor supporting the New York State Department of Heath Medicaid Management Information System. GDIT is your place to make meaningful contributions to challenging projects and grow a rewarding career.

Our work depends on Technical Editor Senior joining our team to support the eMedNY Systems Development team; you will be trusted to collaborate closely with technical teams to deliver appropriate and complex technical documentation. This position is based at the GDIT’s office at Riverview Center in Menands, NY.

HOW A TECHNICAL EDITOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Researches, prepares, and edits technical documents
  • Reviews and edits complex material for punctuation, grammar, and content
  • Identifies and modifies complex contextual errors, reorganizes content, and edits graphics, tables, and illustrations.
  • Collaborates closely with technical teams to deliver appropriate and highly complex content
  • Works with Adobe Pro to change word documents to PDFs and place signatures and check boxes where needed
  • Recommends and provides MS Office Suite and Outlook templates which maximize consistency and team members’ use of time
  • Flexibility in work schedule to meet team requirements
  • Performs other tasks, as requested

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, English or a related discipline
  • Required Experience: The position requires two+ (2+) years of experience in technical writing
  • Required Technical Skills:
    • Strong experience with MS Office Suite, Outlook, SharePoint, Web Conferencing tools like Microsoft Teams,  Zoom, and Adobe Pro
  • Required Skills and Abilities:
    • Experience working with industry writing style such as grammar, sentence format, and structure
    • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
    • Strong organization and time management skills while working in a rapid information technology environment
    • Must be organized, detail orientated, and able to work independently or as part of a team
    • Ability to integrate and become a collaborative team member
    • Must be able to identify and learn new technologies quickly
    • Remain current on new developments in technical writing, editing and publishing, including technological enhancements that may affect the company
    • Ability to multitask

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $68,000 - $92,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
