Job Description

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. We are seeking a Desktop Systems Engineer to join our team to support the National Library of Medicine (NLM) activities. As a Desktop Systems Engineer providing customer support to its users and staff, you will be a technical specialist and diagnostician responsible for troubleshooting, problem solving, and maintaining corporate desktops and other small systems and be responsible for all aspects of small systems configuration, performance, and operation. You will be part of a 10-person team supporting NLM's mission to be the nation's primary library supporting biomedical schools across the US.


This role is supporting a critical mission for the public health, working at the National Institutes of Health main campus in Bethesda, MD. Your technological inputs and service experiences of how to provide outstanding customer support will be taken as inputs to further enable you and the team to make the NLM customer experience even better.  After serving NLM, there are many opportunities to move into other more experienced roles across the GDIT huge portfolio of projects, providing you with career growth while part of a dynamic and vital company.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Broad direct contact and work with users of all levels, IT Service Center staff, network and other technical staff
  • You will be the frontline of NLM customer support, providing outstanding friendly service that is technically tuned for maintaining and supporting highly available and responsive corporate desktops and other small system.

Required Skills:

  • Associates degree or equivalent and four years’ relevant work experience
  • CompTIA A+ certification
  • Four years’ experience in troubleshooting, configuring, and administering Win 10 and Win 11 systems
  • Must have experience working in an enterprise environment
  • Strong technical experience that includes maintenance, repairs, upgrades, enhancements, and configuration of hardware, software and operating systems in an inter-networked environment
  • Experience with desktop standards, desktop management, software deployment, systems administration, and data integrity and recovery
  • Specialized experience including troubleshooting Windows 10 Professional and supporting client configuration, administration and network access in the Microsoft Windows 10 and 11 environments
  • Experience with installing, configuring and using a wide range of COTS desktop and network software and COTS desktop hardware
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance

Desired Skills:

  • BS degree in a related field
  • Microsoft 10 and 11 Enterprise support
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate certification
  • Configuring and Operating Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop course completion
  • Microsoft 365 Endpoint Administrator course completion
  • Experience in both Microsoft and Apple environments
  • Work effectively as part of a team
  • Communicate effectively with team members, other teams, managers, and Government personnel.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $28.60 - $38.70. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
