Streamline. Consolidate. Simplify. Those three words define the direction of the Defense Information Services Agency (DISA), which is playing a frontline role in defining what the Joint Information Enterprise will become.
Pressed by rising demand for bandwidth and services, flat budgets and the accelerating pace of technological advancement, the agency is scrambling to speed up acquisition, reduce waste and get more efficient.
“We need to optimize the environment. We need to get rid of redundant, duplicative tool sets. And we need to reduce costs,” said David Bennett, director of DISA’s Operations Center and chief information officer during a recent reporter round-table interview during DISA’s annual forecast to industry. “We need to drive down the cost of running the environment [and] defending the environment.”
