The Navy and Marine Corps are rallying around the common standards and approach embodied in the Joint Information Enterprise (JIE) concept, with far-reaching implications for the way both manage information technology in the future.
Both services still harbor concerns about the tactical sides of their IT operations. But officials say NGEN-R – the third-generation re-compete of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet program – will embrace JIE standards and common services. It will also leverage the Defense Enterprise Office Solution (DEOS), a defense-wide program to provide all the services with a single, cloud-based email and office productivity suite.
That’s a major departure from just a few years ago, when the Navy and Marine Corps opted out of Defense Enterprise Email, which DEOS will replace.
