Shared services are a hot trend in the federal government for their ability to increase efficiency, decrease costs, and improve operational effectiveness for federal agencies. However, despite being a popular topic across the government, it’s a concept that still confuses many across both the public and private sectors and suffers from some serious misconceptions.

To clear that up, we launched a three-episode podcast series on shared services. In episode one, we defined shared services and their benefits. In episode two, we worked to dispel some common shared services myths. Now, we’re going to share a very powerful shared services success story from a federal agency that’s known for innovation—NASA.

Joining us for this episode is Tony Lisotta, CSRA’s Program Manager for the NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC), who has first-hand knowledge of the agency’s shared services initiatives. During our discussion, we talked about the origin of the NSSC, the benefits it delivered to the agency, and how it’s grown tremendously since it “took off.” Here is what he had to say:
