Agencies are transitioning out of managing infrastructure, and in favor of adopting managed cloud services.

National security agencies are taking greater advantage of cloud services in order to improve mission effectiveness. And it’s just the beginning, says GDIT’s Tom Moore, Chief Cloud Architect and Engineer for the Federal Civilian Division, in this interview during Federal News Network’s Cloud Exchange.

“Trust in public cloud is growing and more agencies are moving core mission systems to the cloud,” Moore says. “This is happening in stages with low-risk applications moving first, as they build cloud foundation capabilities and build confidence in those capabilities, and then move higher risk applications to the cloud.”

Multiple factors are driving the move toward cloud and managed services, Moore explains. Among them: the velocity of change that cloud services provide; the ability to take advantage of economies of scale to save money or reduce costs; and, finally, the benefits that automation delivers within managed services that make it easier to move into DevSecOps and agile development methodologies.
